Lemon Giant tomato: for lovers of large yellow tomatoes

Not everyone likes yellow tomatoes, but there are many very good varieties among them. They have a different shape, size, zoned in different regions. There are also tomatoes with very large fruits, and many gardeners like this. One of the large-fruited salad varieties with yellow tomatoes is the lemon giant tomato.

Growing history

The lemon giant tomato has been known for almost two decades. It was brought out in the Moscow region by specialists of the corporation with the mysterious name “NK. LTD ". Really mysterious: it presents a lot of good varieties, and it is not possible to find detailed information about the organization. There is an address, a phone number, but the owners do not cover breeding activities. In 2000, the variety was registered in the State Register of the Russian Federation, allowed for use by owners of small plots in all regions. Can be grown both in greenhouses and outside them.

Over the years, the lemon giant tomato has been tested by all interested gardeners, a certain opinion has developed about it. It cannot be said that he received universal recognition, but the variety "keeps afloat"; the seeds of this tomato are sold by various seed companies: Sedek, Gavrish, Siberian Garden, etc.

Description of the tomato variety Lemon Giant

The lemon giant tomato is an indeterminate plant, a powerful bush that can grow to more than two meters. Requires the obligatory formation and tying of shoots. Leaves on bushes are of normal size, green, leafiness of the plant is average. The first inflorescence is formed after the 7-9th leaf, the subsequent ones - every three.

To get large fruits, often only 2-3 pieces are left in the brush

Fruits are large, flat-round in shape, with well-visible ribs, medium density, when ripe, they are bright yellow or lemon-colored. They contain from four seed nests, the number of seeds is small. The average weight of the fruit is 350-380 g, the largest can grow up to 700 g. Since they are collected in brushes of 4–5 specimens, it is often necessary to put supports under them as well.

Variety characteristic

Official information on the quality of the fruits says that they have a good taste, some amateurs assure that this characteristic is not entirely true, that tomatoes are very tasty. The taste really does catch lemon notes, but the pulp is juicy and sweet. The skin is firm and prevents the tomatoes from cracking. Collected in a state of blanche ripeness, they are well ripened in the apartment. It has been proven that the content of ascorbic acid and beta-carotene is increased in fruits, they are suitable for dietary nutrition. The main purpose of the crop is salad. The taste and consistency of the fruits allow them to be processed into juice and paste, but the nondescript color of these products leads to the fact that this direction of use is in little demand.

The lemon giant belongs to mid-season varieties, the first fruits are ready for harvest about four months after sowing seeds for seedlings. The yield of the variety is average: 6-7 kg / m2... Disease resistance is above average, resistance to the vagaries of the weather is not bad. Despite their large size, tomatoes tolerate transportation well and are well stored.

Most tomatoes still fit in the palm of your hand.

The main advantages of the variety can be considered:

  • large-fruited;
  • good appearance;
  • transportability;
  • no cracking;
  • good disease resistance.

There are no obvious shortcomings, but the variety shows its best qualities only on fertile soils and subject to watering and feeding regimes. On poor soils and with poor care, tomatoes acquire a watery taste. In addition, the variety requires the timely formation of a bush and tying it to supports.

The fashion for giant tomatoes has always been, but it does not overwhelm gardeners. Experienced vegetable growers are not chasing after the size of the fruits, but for their quality, high yield and complex resistance of varieties to diseases and unfavorable climatic conditions. Now tomatoes, which are characterized only by good taste, are difficult to seduce even a busy summer resident. So, the State Register of the Russian Federation includes as many as nine varieties of tomatoes, the name of which contains the word "giant", and not all of them can boast of brilliant characteristics.

Tomato Giant of the Smolensk selection bears fruit with tomatoes of excellent taste in red, but the mass of fruits is significantly less than that of its lemon counterpart. True, the Gigant belongs to the determinant varieties. The Leningrad giant has not giant fruits at all, weighing only 120 g. The raspberry giant bears fruit with tasty tomatoes, but its yield is low. The Honey Giant has only good taste, and the yield is not so great. Only 6 kg of tomatoes are harvested per square meter of Orange Giant tomato plantings, the same situation with the Pink Giant.

Really giant, half-kilogram tomatoes, the new Siberian giant variety bears fruit. Their taste is recognized as excellent, and the yield, although not a record one, still exceeds 10 kg / m2... Thus, among the congeners, the Lemon Giant is not the best, but not the worst representative; it is grown by those gardeners who are accustomed to the variety. It is not worth advising it to a novice summer resident: the variety is not one of those that forgive mistakes in agricultural technology.

Of all the "giants", the young variety Siberian Giant seems to be the best.

Features of growing tomatoes

The lemon giant tomato is a typical representative of indeterminate varieties of medium ripening, its cultivation is carried out in accordance with general rules, but one has to take into account the plant's high need for nutrients. However, you should not overfeed it at the seedling stage: the seedlings may outgrow. Experts advise to dive it twice: at the usual time (with the first two real sheets) and two weeks later. Only in this way does it form a powerful root system capable of extracting moisture and nutrition from the ground. The timing of sowing seeds and planting seedlings is standard.

Often the seedlings of this tomato outgrow, and they have to be planted obliquely.

Seedlings are planted in a garden bed at the rate of three bushes per square meter, after having built a trellis for tying. If there is no trellis, ordinary strong stakes are needed; you will have to tie up the bushes soon, they grow quickly. Usually, in the open field, the bushes of the Lemon Giant lead into two stems, in the greenhouse - into one. The rest of the stepchildren break out weekly. The leaves are cut off as they turn yellow, and the lower ones - with the beginning of fruit ripening. If you want to get especially large fruits, the yield is rationed: only two or three tomatoes are left in the brush. In cool regions, the shoots are pinched after the third fruit cluster formed.

This tomato is watered infrequently, but abundantly, soaking the soil well. Mulching is highly desirable. On good soils, three standard dressings may be enough, otherwise the bushes are fed twice a month, alternating infusions of mullein and wood ash. After the beginning of the ripening of the crop, the mullein is not given, they are limited to ash. Tomatoes can be picked both ripe and brown: they normally "reach" during storage. It is especially important not to wait for full ripening if the crop needs long-distance transportation.

Reviews of the lemon giant tomato variety

The lemon giant tomato, like all giants, is not very widespread, but many vegetable growers are trying to plant several of its bushes. After all, taking off a couple of half-kilogram fruits of bright yellow color in order to treat friends with a delicious salad is not a bad idea at all.

The variety was filed for registration for introduction into the Register of Breeding Achievements in 1998. After passing tests for several years, "Giant Lemon" in 2000 was included in the register under the number 9805206.

Applicant and originator of the variety ZAO Scientific and Production Corporation NK LTD, Moscow Region, Shchelkovo, Russia.

The variety is recommended for growing in small farms and gardens of personal subsidiary plots, both in open ground and under film shelters in all regions of the Russian Federation.

A variety of medium ripening and salad designation.

Description of the Pink Giant tomato variety

The pink giant has been known for almost 20 years, in 2001 it was included by the State Register of the Russian Federation in the list of varieties approved for cultivation, while it is recommended for small farms and amateur gardeners, summer residents. It is considered the result of amateur selection. Basically, it is customary to plant it in open ground, but it is quite possible to do this in greenhouses. At least, this is clearly indicated by the fact that the regions of its cultivation are not regulated by an official document, and in the north, of course, only a greenhouse option is possible.

The pink giant belongs to indeterminate tomatoes, that is, it grows into a very tall bush, in fact, its height is even more than two meters. Leaves are ordinary, medium-sized, green in color. The first fruit cluster is laid after the 9th leaf, new ones are formed every 3 subsequent ones. The brush contains from 3 to 6 tomatoes, however, in order for them to fully manifest themselves, it is recommended to leave no more than three pieces.

Fruits are flat-round in shape, with a high degree of ribbing, contain 4 seed nests, the number of seeds in them is small. The fruits are very large, weighing an average of 350-400 g, but there are also kilogram specimens, in a mature state the tomatoes are pink in color. Described are giants weighing up to 2.2 kg and irregular shape. Maturity does not come early, almost 3 months after planting the seedlings in the garden.

A small amount of seeds is one of the advantages of a salad variety

The main purpose of the fruit, already according to the name, of course, is for fresh consumption, the variety is considered salad. In addition, tomato juice, pasta, and various sauces are prepared from the fruit. The taste of both fresh tomatoes and dishes made from them is rated excellent, since the fruit pulp is sweet and fleshy. Of course, they do not fit in a jar, but salting in barrels is, in principle, possible, although this does not make much sense: there are a huge number of varieties specially designed for this purpose.

With all the positive characteristics of the variety, its overall yield is quite average: about 6 kg / m 2. The maximum result with a high level of agricultural technology is estimated at 12 kg, which, of course, is also far from ideal.

Since the fruits are very heavy, and the bush is tall, the plants require compulsory shaping and tying. To most diseases, resistance is above average, the variety is tolerant to temperature changes. Despite the large size, the fruits withstand transportation well, since they have a rather dense skin. The shelf life of fresh products is average: in a cool place for about a week, in a cellar - up to a month.

Tomato "Anastasia": variety description

"Anastasia" is an average ripening variety, from planting seedlings in the ground to ripening of fruits you need to wait 100-105 days. The bush is indeterminate, standard, rather high 100-120 cm, in the southern regions in greenhouses it can reach 130 cm. It brings good yields both in unprotected soil and under the film.

Has a very high resistance to fusarium, brown spot and phytosporosis
... Having familiarized ourselves with the bushes, let's talk about the characteristics of Anastasia tomatoes. Fully ripe fruits are bright red, even burgundy. The shape is elongated, but not strong.

The taste is high, the taste is pleasant, sweet and sour, typical of a tomato. Fruits are medium or small, from 100 to 150 grams, at the first harvest they can reach 170 grams. The number of chambers is 4, the dry matter content is 6%. A ripe crop tolerates transportation remarkably well and ripens well if the fruits are harvested a little ahead of time.

The Anastasia tomato variety was bred by domestic breeding experts in 1998. It is included in the State Register as a variety for open ground and greenhouse shelters. Almost immediately it became popular among connoisseurs of plum tomatoes and still occupies a worthy place among the favorites.

This variety is more suitable for the southern regions, where the highest yield is noted. Astrakhan, Volgograd, Belgorod, Donetsk, Crimea and Kuban are ideal. It grows well in other southern regions. But in the Far East, Siberia and the Urals in greenhouses, it also gives good results.

Small cute tomatoes "Anastasia" are ideal for whole-fruit canning. In barrel pickles, these tomatoes will be very good. When fresh, it is good to use in first courses, in combination with other vegetables. Due to the high content of vitamins and balanced taste, a very healthy and tasty juice is obtained from them. Pastes and purees are also very good.

Under good conditions, 3-4 kg can be harvested from one bush.
Per sq. m it is recommended to plant no more than 3-4 plants. It turns out about 11 kg, in the southern regions it can reach 15 kg. This is a very good indicator of productivity.

The main advantages of the Anastasia tomato variety are

  • suitable for preservation
  • unpretentiousness to external conditions
  • tolerance for poor soil composition
  • high yield
  • good disease resistance.

Among the shortcomings, it is noted that inexperienced summer residents often have difficulties with a trunk garter and a support under the branches. Requires tall greenhouses.

Growing features

Among the peculiarities of the variety, amateur gardeners and farmers note simply the unique unpretentiousness of the Anastasia variety. Also worth noting is a good yield, pleasant taste and quick ripening.

Seeds are sown at the end of March. Diving is carried out in the phase of 1-2 true leaves. The trunk of the plant must be strengthened with sticks or trellises, its heavy brushes need to be fixed. The first fixing must be done when the plant reaches a height of 20-30 cm.

If "Anastasia" is planted in a greenhouse shelter, the bush is formed in two stems, in the open field in three. The soil does not need special preparation, this species grows well in any soil. At all stages of growth responds well to standard natural fertilizers and growth stimulants.

Diseases and pests

This variety is not susceptible to fungal diseases.
It can "get sick" if you do not take elementary preventive measures.

In order to avoid such problems, during cultivation, you must regularly ventilate the room where your tomatoes grow, and do not allow the soil to dry out or waterlogged. Sudden temperature changes will not harm this species, but it is still worth monitoring the lighting and temperature in the greenhouse.

Coarse sand, crushed shells of nuts or eggs will also be a good measure of protection, they must be scattered around the plants to create the desired barrier. A frequent uninvited guest in a greenhouse or a greenhouse is a melon aphid; the drug "Bison" is also used against it. Like many other varieties of tomatoes, it can be invaded by the greenhouse whitefly; it is fought with the drug "Confidor".

As you can see, this is a fairly stable variety in care, following simple rules of care you can get a very good harvest. Good luck and a delicious harvest on the site.

Lemon giant - vitamin tomato for greenhouses and open beds. Detailed description, tips and feedback

An amazing tomato announces itself - gigantic weight, lemon color. But you will learn about the taste, ripening times, advantages over other varieties from the description in the article. It will be useful to familiarize yourself with the recommendations for cultivation and reviews of experienced farmers.

Description of the variety

The lemon giant was listed in the State Register in 2000. According to the recommendations of the originator of the variety (NK "Russian Garden"), tomato can be grown in all regions of the Russian Federation in open and closed areas.

The plant is very powerful, indeterminate. In a greenhouse, it can reach 2-2.5 m in height, in open beds, the growth of a bush is more modest - up to 1.5 m. According to the growing season, the tomato belongs to the mid-season (on average 110-120 days from germination).

Fruits are formed on simple inflorescences, the first of which is formed above 7-9 leaves, and then alternate through three leaves. Each brush carries 2-4 tomatoes.

When ripe, the green color of tomatoes, with prominent dark green shoulders, is replaced by a uniform lemon-yellow color.

Tomatoes are impressive in size. In a greenhouse, the weight of one fruit can reach 900-1000 g, in the exhaust gas, the dimensions are not so impressive - on average, 400-500 g. The shape is flattened-rounded with moderate ribbing at the base.

A bright yellow color remains on the cut of the tomato. The central part is well defined, fleshy. There are many seed pockets, but they are not very pronounced. The taste is sweet, with a light lemon aroma, moderate sourness. Some gourmets describe the taste of this variety as marmalade.

Attention! The description of the lemon giant tomato is based on data from the originator of the variety and information from the State Register. Tomatoes grown from seeds from other agricultural firms can differ significantly in color, weight and taste.

A number of advantages distinguish this variety among its yellow-fruited counterparts:

  • consistently high yield (about 15 kg in the greenhouse and 6-7 in the open field)
  • delicious taste that stands out in salads and juices
  • increased content of β-carotene (a pigment, a precursor of vitamin A) and ascorbic acid, which is especially appreciated in dietary nutrition
  • can stay on the bush for a long time while maintaining taste
  • long-term storage.

The disadvantages of tomato can be listed:

Agrotechnical features and reviews of gardeners

By following the recommendations of the breeders of the variety, you can achieve maximum results when growing tomatoes.

  1. Seeds should be sown 60-70 days from the intended planting of seedlings in the ground.
  2. As soon as you notice the appearance of 1-2 true leaves, dive.
  3. After the formation of 5-6 true leaves, the seedlings are ready for transplantation into a greenhouse or open ground (according to the 60x50 scheme).
  4. Form into one or two stems.
  5. In the process of growing, do not skimp on fertilizing with complex fertilizers.
  6. If you want super-giant tomatoes, adjust the number of brushes on the bush and the fruits themselves in each brush.

What results did the gardeners who grew the Lemon Giant get, the reviews will tell.

Svetlana from Kazan writes: “I bought seeds from two sources and grew them in a greenhouse. The tomatoes grew large in both cases, only the color was different. On the bushes from the first source, the tomatoes were rather orange, and from the second they were really like lemon, and their aroma was more reminiscent of it ”.

Andrey from Omsk shares: “I have been growing yellow tomatoes for the 4th year already, and have collected a small collection of varieties. This tomato was planted for the first time. As for me, it is more troublesome to grow than its brethren, but the result was worth the effort spent on it. I collected 35 kg of very beautiful and tasty tomatoes from 6 bushes. "

Even if you are an adherent of traditional tomatoes, take a closer look at the Lemon Giant, and you may open up new horizons in farming.

Exposure to diseases and parasites

It is believed that the Giant Lemon tomato variety is not affected by parasites or diseases. Neither mites, nor mosaic, nor fungus can affect it. But, one should not forget about prevention, so as not to jeopardize future yields.

For preventive purposes, several important manipulations can be carried out. Firstly, do not forget that before planting seedlings or seeds in the soil, you need to loosen it a little. For this, special tools are used that can pierce the soil. Secondly, all the soil in greenhouses is treated with a special solution of manganese or copper sulfate. This will kill all negative bacteria that were stored in the soil and all insect eggs. In addition, it will increase the immune system of the tomato.
